Changes to MAAFL in 2007 plan for future growth Print E-mail
Saturday, 20 January 2007

The MAAFL Board have announced a new look structure for 2007 and are excited about bringing many new clubs under their banner for the future development of Aussie Rules Football in their region. In 2007 there will be a Championship Division comprising five current clubs and a Regional Division comprising clubs that are at time that does not allow them to participate in a larger traveling schedule.

The Championship Division will be teams from Nashville, St Louis, Cincinnati, Chicago and Milwaukee.

Other clubs coming under the MAAFL banner in the new Regional Division are Baton Rouge, Atlanta, Dallas, Kansas City, Louisville, Minnesota & Mobile. With other teams Houston & Austin coming on board possibly as their development continues.

The Board issues these points regarding the new structure

  1. The league will still remain called the MAAFL.
  2. There will be group of teams that committ to a set schedule to determine a league champion. This will be called the Championship Division.
  3. There will be other teams in the central region that will be MAAFL teams with a different or lesser schedule that will play games according to their own development and local needs. This will be called the Regional Division.
  4. The strategy of the MAAFL league shall be to bring more teams into the Championship Division in future years but not exclude other teams from coming under the MAAFL banner for the needs of publicity, development and support in all facets of the game.
  5. The MAAFL will hold its own conference to discuss the region's needs and ongoing development.
